How often should I re-appraise?

Every three years and after any repair or restyle. Metal and stone prices move and an out-of-date value is the most common reason a claim pays out short.

Why three years

Replacement value tracks what a shop would charge today. Gold, platinum and coloured stone prices move enough over three years that a stale figure stops covering the piece.

The other triggers

Any repair, resize or restyle changes the piece. So does a new lab report, a change of insurer or a divorce or estate that needs a different kind of value entirely.
